Shell Hyatt

Hey there! I’m Shell, a passionate dog trainer.

As a child, I was sure I would become a Veterinarian. This initially led me down the path of Veterinary Assisting, but I soon realized the clinic setting wasn’t the right fit. My true inspiration struck through a German Shepherd named Leann, a protection dog who wouldn’t bark at any student in scrubs but would bark at the same student in casual clothing. I found that distinction to be super interesting and my real journey began.

After completing my course, I welcomed my own German Shepherd, Lacey, in 2017. While I had a great foundation of training with her, I struggled with dog reactivity for her first few years with me, which developed into dog aggression and fighting other dogs in our home. In 2020, I began my professional journey at a Dog Training Franchise. Working there not only changed my life, it changed Lacey’s too. She transformed from not being able to see a dog without being on guard, to completely ignoring any dog and having her full attention on me.

I quickly advanced from a Kennel Technician (caring for and training board & train dogs) to leading private lessons and graduating thousands of clients and their dogs. I also managed multiple weekly group classes of up to 30 dogs. In the process, I discovered my special interest in aggressive, anxious, and high-strung dogs. While I enjoy training any and all challenges, I have a particular love for working with the tougher cases.

In early 2024, I made the drive to Texas to pick up my second dog, Darryl, an Australian Cattle Dog. I didn’t want an “easy” breed; my goal was to challenge myself with a breed that is loyal and willing but prone to behavioral issues. And I got exactly what I wished for.

Later that year, I left the franchise to pursue my own vision. I am currently furthering my commitment to my vision by studying Business Administration, which helps me manage and grow Groovy Canine to its full potential.

My ultimate goal is to help owners and dogs live better lives. When you begin to truly understand dogs, you notice how much their behavior can be misinterpreted. I am so full of information that I can only hope you want me to share with you, so you can live the best life with your dog.

Chosen for the challenge of working with a breed known for its intelligence and feisty temperament, he is now off-leash reliable and the friendliest heeler I’ve met.
